The historic Lyman Missionary House is the centerpiece of My Island Bed & Breakfast Inn. It is located in Volcano Village on a seven-acre botanical estate that flowers faithfully all year round. The three-story Connecticut wooden farmhouse was constructed as a summer home by the missionary family in 1886. |

The house features a living and dining area where guests may
share the highlights of their Big Island adventures. An 1868 Franklin fireplace
provides warmth on chilly days (yes, we have some.) The living room is available
for guest use, along with a telephone, wireless internet, hot water and a
huge selection of tea and other hot drinks, games and books for children.
Guests are invited to convene each morning between 7 and 8:30 a.m. for a
generous varied continental breakfast. |

The first floor also houses a library
of Pacific-wide reading and reference books and guides of the Big Island,
including the writings by My Island host Gordon Morse, who is often on
hand to share his local knowledge with you. |

Oldies and oddities throughout the house include a redwood bathtub, handpoured imperfect glass in all windows, koa branches for stairway railings, bed quilts made by women in downeast Maine, and Hawaiian koa furniture. We have recently renovated the shared bathroom on the second floor, restoring the redwood bathrub and lining the shower stall with copper. Gordon and his wife Joann live next door to the main historic house. Their daughter Kii is the manager of My Island. These three are the type of people who enjoy company. The main house has a resident cat - a 20 year old Snowshoe Siamese named Maka. |
